At Hull Sisters, creating sustainable change for minoritised women requires connecting local, frontline support with wide-reaching policy reform. Over the past year, we have strengthened our voice by securing pivotal seats in key regional partnerships and high-impact national coalitions.
A Regional Milestone: The End Violence Against Women (EVAW) Coalition
Hull Sisters achieved a significant institutional milestone by being welcomed into the End Violence Against Women (EVAW) coalition, standing as the only women’s organisation across the entire local area to secure membership. EVAW unites over 120 leading feminist organisations and frontline specialists across the UK to eliminate gender-based violence. Grounded in an intersectional, anti-racist framework, this membership ensures the distinct challenges faced by Black and minoritised women in Hull are directly represented on the national policy stage.
National Advocacy in Action: The IC Change Campaign
Through strategic national solidarity, Hull Sisters joined over 80 specialist organisations in the IC Change campaign, petitioning the UK Government to ratify the Istanbul Convention. While collective advocacy secured the UK’s ratification, our frontline team continues to actively campaign against opt-outs in articles 44 and 59 demanding vital, life-saving statutory protections for migrant women navigating abuse.
Anchoring Local Impact: Sector and Locality Alliances
To complement our national advocacy, Hull Sisters maintains deep integration within regional community networks. Our work with Hull CVS (Community and Voluntary Services) and ERVAS allows us to collaborate across Hull and the wider East Riding region to coordinate frontline support, address rural and suburban isolation, and share vital resources. Furthermore, as members of the Community Wealth Fund Alliance, we actively advocate for long-term systemic investment targeted at communities experiencing acute socioeconomic deprivation. Through our affiliation with the NCVO (National Council for Voluntary Organisations), we continue to embed best-practice governance, safeguarding standards, and operational resilience across all our provisions.
By linking local civic alliances with national advocacy coalitions, Hull Sisters ensures that frontline community insight actively shapes policy, expands resources, and protects vulnerable women at every level.
