Sewing

We offer sewing classes suitable for all ability levels.

For those new to sewing, our beginner’s course is compulsory and provides an excellent foundation for anyone interested in developing their skills in machine sewing.

The beginner’s class covers a range of essential skills, including:

  • Cutting and pinning fabric using simple patterns
  • Threading and winding bobbins
  • Sewing straight seams
  • Creating covered buttons
  • Understanding sewing patterns and their symbols

Attendees will also be instructed on:

  • The correct measurements needed for successful sewing
  • How to alter patterns for the perfect fit
  • How to insert a regular zip
  • How to finish a waistline with bias or binding

For those interested in children’s clothing design, we offer a dedicated course where women can learn to create different designs in children’s frocks, pyjamas, socks, purses, hats, and more, suitable for different age groups.

Our curtain-making course is ideal for those who want to learn how to measure windows correctly, cut and line curtains by machine, and easily attach them. This session provides plenty of tips and tricks from an expert tutor. Please note that this course is unsuitable for beginners as you will be expected to use a sewing machine confidently, sew and cut with skill. Ideally at the same level as someone who has completed the beginner’s course.

“I have been going to the sewing class for two months. This has helped me develop a new skill: making clothes for myself and my children. I am so happy that I am now able to make my own clothes as I no longer have to spend money on clothing. I have also made new friends at the sewing class. I am able to share any worries I have with other women. This makes me feel supported and I no longer feel isolated. I fled from my country due to war so having these new friends makes me feel safe and sewing class takes my mind off these problems."
