Hull Sisters Library

Hull Sisters Library

Women attending our centre can borrow books for themselves and their children through our library.

At Hull Sisters, we have our own library full of children’s and adult books to encourage and promote a joy of reading and improve literacy.

Our library provides diverse books promoting inclusivity and centres the global majority, their lives, languages and culture.

We have over 200 books, including fiction, non-fiction, poetry and graphic novels.

Our adult and children’s books are available in English, Farsi and Arabic, and we have multi-lingual books in Somali, Punjabi, Gujarati, Farsi, Turkish, Urdu, Persian, Polish and Dari.

New research from the National Literacy Trust and digital bank, Chase, reveals the impact that the cost-of-living crisis is having on children’s access to books. We’re determined that our service users have access to books that inspire, challenge, build empathy, teach and in combination with our ESOL classes help our women increase their literacy.

Lacking basic reading and writing skills is a tremendous disadvantage, as is a lack of access to books. Literacy enriches lives and creates opportunities for women to develop skills that will help them provide for themselves and their families.

BookTrust has reading guides available in over 20 languages to support you to encourage a love of reading with your children.
