This is a large-scale, women- and children-only event that we organise once a year as a major annual celebration, where participants come together to celebrate their achievements. They enjoy time together, perform dances to music, share food, and showcase and sell their creations.
Over 1,000 women and girls attend this event each year, making it extremely popular within the community. Children and toddlers, along with women, wear their traditional and festive dresses, celebrating in a safe and supportive women-only environment. They proudly present their art and performances in front of invited guests, including local community leaders, council portfolio holders, and local politicians.
Women and girls share unforgettable moments and create lasting memories with one another. Children enjoy themselves with bouncy castles and other fun activities, making it a joyful experience for all. The celebrations often continue into the evening before everyone returns home.
This day is dedicated to joy, celebration, and togetherness-a chance to come together, forget the challenges they face, and instead feel proud of their achievements while enjoying each other’s company. It is a great example of community cohesion, improved wellbeing, and increased awareness and engagement.

The annual Spring Barbecue hosted by Hull Sisters is a vibrant and joyful celebration that brings women and children from all backgrounds together in a welcoming and inclusive space. Held once a year, this much-loved event transforms an ordinary car park into a lively hub of culture, connection, and community spirit.
Women and children come together to share and celebrate their heritage through music, dance, and drumming, creating an atmosphere full of energy, colour, and joy. It is a beautiful opportunity to express cultural identity, build confidence, and form meaningful connections.
More than just a social gathering, the event supports women and girls who may feel isolated by offering a safe space to connect, belong, and thrive. Local services and organisations are also invited, giving women access to support and resources in a relaxed setting.
At its heart, the Hull Sisters Spring Barbecue is a celebration of unity, culture, and empowerment, where every woman is welcomed, valued, and celebrated.
The women-only bazaar, held twice a year by Hull Sisters, is a vibrant celebration of creativity, culture, and empowerment. It provides a safe space for women and girls of colour to showcase skills they have developed through sewing, crocheting, and arts and crafts classes.
The women create beautiful garments and accessories, often inspired by their cultural backgrounds, which are proudly displayed and worn during this colourful event. The high level of craftsmanship reflects the time, effort, and dedication invested in their training.
This initiative aims to support women and girls of colour who may experience social isolation, which can negatively affect their health and wellbeing. The bazaar offers them a sense of community, confidence, and purpose.
Importantly, the event also gives women and girls valuable exposure by exhibiting and selling their handmade items which is a great step towards financial independence. This helps develop their entrepreneurial skills and is a meaningful step towards financial independence.
