Sustained exposure to trauma, domestic abuse, displacement, and financial destitution leaves deep physical and emotional imprints. For many women from the global majority, chronic stress manifests as debilitating physical tension, low mood, and severe anxiety. Yet, cultural stigma and systemic barriers often prevent women from seeking clinical psychological therapy.
To provide safe, accessible pathways to healing, Hull Sisters expanded our holistic wellness programme, introducing free weekly massage and reflexology sessions alongside energising group fitness classes.
Every Thursday, our centre hosts Sandra, a qualified professional therapist who provides dedicated reflexology and massage appointments. Operating in an environment grounded in unconditional positive regard, these sessions offer a gentle, calming sanctuary. For many participants who have experienced severe control, isolation, or trauma, this therapeutic touch offers rare physical comfort and relief. The safe, non-judgemental atmosphere regularly encourages clients to process deep-seated distress that they had previously kept suppressed.
Alongside one-to-one bodywork, our lively Zumba classes bring over 240 women and girls together each week to move, dance, and rebuild self-confidence. Led in an energetic, supportive environment, these sessions elevate physical health, release endorphins, and dismantle the social isolation that confines vulnerable women to their homes.
By combining one-to-one therapy with joyful group movement, Hull Sisters empowers women to reclaim their physical health, build emotional resilience, and discover lasting community connection.
