In March 2024, BBC Radio Humberside returned to Hull Sisters for an in-depth follow-up broadcast spotlighting the transformative community work taking place within our centre since our major award victory.
Having received the prestigious BBC Humberside ‘Make a Difference Award’ for Best Community Group in Humber and Lincolnshire, our organisation welcomed celebrated presenter Kofi Smiles to meet with our staff, volunteers, and service users. The dedicated segment provided listeners with a firsthand look at how the recognition has elevated our frontline mission and amplified the voices of women from the global majority.
During the broadcast, Kofi Smiles explored how our daily provisions from warm soup kitchen lunches and emergency foodbank distributions to ESOL life skills and trauma-informed wellness surgeries continue to break cycles of isolation for over 2,500 women and children. Service users shared personal accounts of finding belonging and safety inside our doors, highlighting the vital necessity of specialist, culturally competent grassroots spaces.
Sustained regional coverage from the BBC not only validates our frontline work, but also ensures that the resilience, dignity, and achievements of minoritised women in Hull remain firmly in the public eye.
