In March 2023, national food redistribution charity FareShare UK turned its spotlight onto Hull Sisters, recognizing our frontline team as vital “Food Heroes” dedicated to combating severe food poverty across Hull and the Humber.
As escalating inflation and rising supermarket prices pushed more minoritised families into crisis, FareShare highlighted Hull Sisters across their national platforms, calling on government and industry leaders to direct surplus food to grassroots organizations that need it most. FareShare’s feature acknowledged that our foodbank service provides a critical safety net for hundreds of low-income mothers, single parents, and families with no recourse to public funds who cannot afford adequate weekly groceries.
Furthering this national partnership, FareShare UK invited Hull Sisters on two separate occasions to deliver keynote presentations and participate in specialist question-and-answer panels. Sharing our frontline insights allowed us to highlight the unique, intersectional barriers minoritised women face such as digital isolation, language obstacles, and the urgent need for culturally appropriate nutrition.
Being recognized by the UK’s largest food redistribution charity solidifies Hull Sisters’ standing as a trusted frontline authority, proving that dignified food relief must always go hand in hand with cultural understanding and holistic community care.
